Alex Marko, 83, of Elgin died there Friday in Asta Care Center. Mr. Marko, who was born in Copley, Pa., retired in 1978 as an inspector in the former Teletype division of AT&T, Skokie, after 25 years of service. Mr. Marko was in the Army Air Forces as an armorer for B-17 and B-24 bombers and P-39 and P-40 aircraft in the South Pacific for 33 months during World War II. Mr. Marko received the Asiatic-Pacific theater ribbon with six bronze battle stars and the American Defense ribbon with one bronze battle star. Survivors include his wife, Katherine; two sons, John and Joel; a daughter, Monica; and two grandsons. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. Tuesday until services at 4:30 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. in O’Connor & Homeier Funeral Home, 364 Division St., Elgin. Prayers will be said at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, followed by a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 272 Division St., Elgin.
