Edith “Dee” Kemmerer, 64, of Skokie, died of cancer on Oct. 26 in Evanston Hospital. Born in Chicago and raised in Evanston, she earned a sociology degree from Denison University in Granville, Ohio. Mrs. Kemmerer married shortly afterward, and though she never had the opportunity to formally use her education, she was involved in many community and charity organizations, such as the Women’s Club of Wilmette. “She was very generous,” said her husband, Gail Kemmerer Jr. “I suppose it was the way we were raised.” He said they were products of the Great Depression, “an era when everybody helped everybody.” In addition to her husband, Mrs. Kemmerer is survived by five daughters, Connie Abell, Claire McNeese, Linda Mayer, Claudia McDermott and Katie Carnazzo; four sons, James, Gail III and Rick and Michael King; and 14 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 13 in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 524 9th St., Wilmette.
