Many of today’s television shows and movies have some act of violence in them. Many of these programs are readily available to all children. There were no violent programs on television 40 years ago, many fewer with guns, and school shootings were virtually unheard of. Now you can turn on your average cartoon and find your favorite superhero being aggressive and killing others.

Murder is so frequent now that it doesn’t seem like that big of a deal to young children. This spurs youth into believing that violence is OK.

In addition, the Internet has been blamed for having numerous sites of how to make bombs and also many hate sites. The sites are a much more direct way to give angry teens all the more reason to kill.

What is needed is for broadcasting stations to be more aware that there is an audience of all ages watching, and that violent shows should be better screened. We should have much tighter regulations on sites that we allow on the Internet. If these were enforced, youths would be less exposed to the violence.
