The Ravinia Festival has renewed the contract of executive director Zarin Mehta for five years. Mehta has directed the festival since 1990 and since then has launched several major initiatives, including the Rising Stars at Ravinia series, Jazz at Ravinia and Musica Viva. He brought in Christoph Eschenbach as music director in 1994. He also has initiated numerous community outreach programs. Under his leadership, the festival finished the 1999 season with the highest attendance in its history.
