Florida goaltender Trevor Kidd made 30 saves as the Panthers snapped a four-game winless streak.
In his first start against his former team, Kidd was at his best in the first period, making several spectacular saves as the Panthers took a 3-1 lead despite being outshot 12-6.
Kidd, who improved to 6-2-2, broke into the NHL with Calgary in 1992 and played four full seasons with the Flames from 1993 to 1997.
