Carolina forced five Eagles turnovers and converted them into 20 points.
Sean Gilbert had a sack and forced a fumble, and Kevin Greene had a sack and a fumble recovery to lead a defense that held Philadelphia to 249 yards. Steve Beuerlein threw three TD passes, two to Muhsin Muhammad, and John Kasay kicked four field goals for the Panthers (3-5).
“We needed to get one of these,” said Carolina cornerback Eric Davis.
Only a 14-yard touchdown run by Duce Staley with 2:37 remaining allowed the Eagles (2-7) to avoid a shutout. Donovan McNabb, the seldom-used first-round draft pick, played the entire second half. He misfired on 12 of 20 passes and was intercepted once, but coach Andy Reid raised the possibility that McNabb could start next week against Washington.
