Herbert Bloomberg, 89, died of cardiac failure Thursday at the Welshire Nursing Home in Lincolnshire. According to his family, Mr. Bloomberg was a pioneer in the graphics industry, helping establish the field of offset lithography. A Chicago native, Mr. Bloomberg began his printing career at the now-defunct Regensteiner’s company before launching his own firm, Windy City Litho Plate Co., in the 1950s. He maintained the business, which made plates for printing presses, for nearly two decades before selling it in 1974. “Chicago was considered the printing capital of the world in the ’50s, and he wanted to control his own destiny,” said his son, Steven. Other survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Waxman; a sister, Dena Marcus; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services were held.
