The Village Board has unanimously approved a zoning code change that means any new residential construction or renovation must be situated in the average setback of all homes on its block.
The change went into effect immediately but has no impact on previously filed permits. Only if the work related to those applications changes significantly would the new provision have any effect.
The board’s action is in response to situations in at least six locations where residents are concerned neighbors will move homes forward on their lots so much that it would hurt the blocks’ character and appearance.
The issue has been especially worrisome for some residents on blocks with setbacks in the 80-foot range or greater.
