After hearing the objections of residents, Tinley Park plan commissioners Thursday night deadlocked on whether to recommend the Village Board issue a special-use permit for a water pumping station that would bring lake water to New Lenox residents.

Commissioners voted 3-3 on the proposal to build the facility at approximately 19300 S. 82nd Ave., west of the Brookside Glen subdivision. Among the objections were the proximity of the facility to residences, noise concerns and the impact on property values.

Plans for the facility, designed to blend with the adjacent residential neighborhood, were presented to Tinley officials two weeks ago. The Village Board may take up the issue at its Dec. 7 meeting.

The pump is part of a $12 million project, which includes a pipeline from the pumping station through Mokena to New Lenox.
