Lest we forget, Thanksgiving is the holiday that falls between Halloween and Christmas. Here are a few ideas if you’re looking for some companionship or a hearty meal at turkey time:
Fun and games
– Grandparents and grandchildren can spend Sunday making Thanksgiving centerpieces, playing holiday games and participating in singalongs and a snack from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Northwest Suburban Jewish Community Center, 1250 Radcliffe Rd., Buffalo Grove; $8 per child for members; $10 per child for non-members. 847-392-7411.

FRIENDLY FACES AND FREE FEASTS
– Alderman Bernie Hansen (44th Ward), George Loukas of the Cubby Bear and the Lakeview Shelter will team up for the third year to serve the hungry, lonely and homeless a Thanksgiving dinner at the Cubby Bear, 1059 W. Addison St., from noon to 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. 773-327-1662.
– The Parkview Community Church will serve Thanksgiving dinner from noon to 2 p.m. The dinner is free and open to the public, especially those who would otherwise be alone on turkey day. 764 St. Charles Rd., in Glen Ellyn. For more info, call 630-469-4306.
– The folks at The Depot Restaurant invite anyone who would like to share a meal with friendly people to come to a free traditional Thanksgiving dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the corner of Illinois Highways 12 and 31 in Richmond (reservations preferred but not necessary). 815-678-4062.
