Edgar Kann, 87, a former official with Teamsters Local No. 705 in Chicago, died of complications from Alzheimer’s disease Friday at Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington. Mr. Kann, a lifelong resident of the Chicago area, joined the International Brotherhood of Teamsters as a truck driver and rose through its ranks to become a business representative, said his daughter Carole Bock. “My dad just loved his job,” which entailed making certain that employers adhered to union contracts, she said. After retiring in 1977, Mr. Kann spent much of his time helping family members and friends with projects from small carpentry jobs to auto repairs–“anything he could do to help us out,” Bock said. He also was active at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Mt. Prospect, she said. In addition to his daughter, Mr. Kann is survived by his wife, Helen; another daughter, Arleen Battalora; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect. Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Cecilia, 700 S. Meier Rd.
