There is one issue that I have not seen covered in the Decatur debacle. What of the students that do not fight, who actually attend classes, who are notdestructive and disrespectful of their school, other students, and their property?

The Rev. Jesse Jackson will leave Decatur as fast as the television cameras do, having done nothing except reward the negative behavior of young thugs.

The safety of genuine students is paramount here. Something must be done with the seven students involved in the fight, and returning them to school should not be an option. Jail, yes. Hospitalization maybe. Intensive therapy, certainly. It’s far more important that schools and their activities be safe and peaceful.

Rev. Jackson will go on to the next photo opportunity, but the people of Decatur must live there. Please allow them to safeguard their community.
