The last weekend of Wisconsin’s nine-day gun deer hunt was marred by the shooting death of a hunter whose body was found Sunday face-down and next to a logging road in Adams County.

It was the second shooting fatality reported in this year’s hunt, which ended Sunday at dusk.

The 36-year-old Milwaukee man’s name was not immediately released, pending notification of relatives, according to a news release from the Adams County Sheriff’s Department.

Undersheriff Mark Puerling said a member of a hunting party called the department Saturday night to report a missing person, who had not been seen in about 6 1/2 hours.

A search airplane spotted the hunter lying in the grass next to a logging trail Sunday morning, nearly 10 1/2 hours after he was reported missing. The hunter had been the victim of a gunshot wound, apparently from a hunting accident, Puerling said.
