The Tribune’s opinion (Editorial, Nov. 20) that Pakistan’s military regime spare the former prime minister’s life, should he be found guilty, demonstrates a Western lack of understanding of the complex nature of the government by feudal lords in Pakistan. Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif can, like the mafia leaders, operate from his jail cell. A change of government may free him and elect him for the third time.
The West may find it difficult to understand, but there comes a time when a little bloodletting is needed to clean out an ulcerating wound. Let him be hanged, if he is found guilty.
