I was jarred by the Nov. 16 headline in the Metro North section “HUD tacks if’s to CHA rehab plan.” What do you suppose the headline writer thought “ifs” means without an apostrophe? To discover such an irritating error in such a distinguished newspaper as the Tribune is painful to those who love the English language.
