General Mills Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant to Garfield Farm Museum’s effort to establish a $50,000 talent fund for the addition of experienced staff.

Under the direction of museum executive director Jerome Johnson, the museum has dealt with ongoing building restoration, established annual programming, preserved southern and western adjacent lands, and created the Burr House support facility.

Johnson now will focus on off-premise meetings with individuals, businesses and foundations to further the museum’s development. Museum operations director Peter A. Malmberg’s workload requires a third full-time staff person to assist in the volunteers’ efforts.

The museum has raised $40,000 of its talent fund and hopes to raise the remaining $10,000 by year’s end.

Donations can be sent to Garfield Farm Museum, Box 403, LaFox, IL 60147, or by calling 630-584-8485.
