The real issue regarding Pete Rose is that he could be reinstated into baseball without going into the Hall of Fame. Rose has been out of the game itself and denied any income he might have accrued from baseball for the past decade. So now is the time for baseball to open its gates, but not necessarily those of the Hall, for baseball’s No. 14. Pete’s last 10 years of financial exile are adequate punishment for the crimes he committed.
