Hinsdale Central girls coach Steve Gross figures that it was discipline that helped his No. 4 Red Devils run their unbeaten record to 17-0 Friday night, defeating Proviso West 56-42.
It also didn’t hurt that Morgan Kasperek scored 23 points.
Proviso West kept the game close for the first three quarters, Then, with the score 33-28, Hinsdale launched a 14-0 run. The Red Devils also capitalized on 15 forced turnovers in the third quarter. The run helped Hinsdale pull away, and eventually build a 20-point lead.
“Proviso West played very aggressively,” said Gross. “There’s a point where you have to just play disciplined defense and let their aggressiveness hurt them. I think that’s what happened. It wasn’t that we were making fantastic plays; we won this game with our discipline.”
