In 1945, I was a 10-year-old in Berlin. My parents and I were happy when the war ended and all the killing that the Nazis did ended.

On my father’s side, most of his relatives died in concentration camps. It was sad what the Germans did to their own people.

In 1949, my parents and I came to Chicago (sponsored by my Aunt Helen) to a land where we had freedom.
