Walking through the largely empty aisles in the supermarket and in speaking with friends, including those who should have known better, it is clear that Chicagoans stocked up on staples, canned goods and water as a hedge against the Y2K virus. What should now be done with these stockpiles? Why not begin the new millennium with a charitable gift to organizations that provide relief to the needy?
