The Barrington Arts Council and the Illinois Arts Council have announced the recipients of ARTSBOOST 2000 grants.

The grants are awarded to non-profit organizations that propose arts-related projects in Barrington and seven surrounding villages, West and East Dundee and all of McHenry County.

The $14,215 in grants includes $11,250 from the Illinois Arts Council and $2,965 from the Barrington Arts Council.

Among the institutions and organizations receiving funds:

– The Adult Child Rehabilitation Center for McHenry County received $795 for its Summer Program Spectacular;

– The Barrington High School Choral Program received $695 for its barber shop harmony “informance” led by Silver and Gold adult quartet members;

– The Barrington High School Nuance Literary Magazine received $1,140 for its publication, which is created, produced and distributed by students;

– The Barrington Youth Dance Ensemble received $1,100 for four performances that benefit children as well as HIV-AIDS patients and their families;

– The Chester Gould-Dick Tracy Museum Foundation received $815 for its Junior Cartoons Program, an exhibition of children’s cartooning

– The Community Agency for McHenry County received $465 to help finance a ceramic tile mural that will be created by Head Start children and their families;

– The Crystal Lake Community Band received $1,380 for its Community Arts Festival, which involves eight local performance groups;

– The Crystal Lake Community Choir received $1,240 for its performance of the concert “An American Dream”;

– The Pioneer Center of McHenry County will receive a $345 grant for a May performance of “Broadway Rhythms V” at the Woodstock Opera House and a $490 grant for a program of healing through the arts for the mentally challenged.
