Bartlett is set to undergo more than $21 million in capital improvements by 2004, with street projects representing nearly 75 percent of the proposed expenditures.

According to a recent report by Village Administrator Valerie Salmons, 22 projects are scheduled for construction this year. They include a bike path near Commonwealth Edison property; infrastructure improvements for the new Town Center; an auxiliary sludge-storage facility; improvements on North Avenue, between Oak and Prospect Streets; and an expanded golf maintenance facility.

Salmons said the new five-year program represents a 14 percent decrease in spending from that in the prior five years.

“The biggest drop has been in sewer projects–from $8.5 million to $1.7 million–as a result of completing the waste-water treatment plant expansion,” Salmons said in an interview.

Also planned for this year, said village engineer Dale Marting, are “improvements on Schick and Petersdorf Roads, near Bartlett High School, along with adding traffic signals at Bartlett and Gifford Roads and also at (Illinois Highway) 59 and Struckman Boulevard.”

Three new projects that have been added since the last improvement plan was submitted to the village include new sidewalks at three locations; a reconfiguration of the police records section in the Municipal Building; and a new Village Hall driveway.

Salmons said village tax and fee revenues, developer donations and grants would be used to fund the projects.
