If Annette Gordon-Reed had lived during Thomas Jefferson’s time, she might have been a tabloid reporter. We can imagine the headline: “FOUNDING FATHER’S ROMP WITH SLAVE.” But law professor Gordon-Reed, is the author of “Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings: An American Controversy,” a 1997 book that used the results of DNA tests on Hemings’ descendents to argue that Jefferson almost certainly was the father of Hemings’ youngest child, Eston Hemings. Gordon-Reed speaks on the topic at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at North Central College, 325 E. Benton Ave. Free. 630-637-5156.
