In celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday (Jan. 15, but officially held the third Monday in January) and his dream, there are several noteworthy events around town this weekend:
– “Renaissance . . . Remembering the Dream,” a gala featuring WGCI’s Richard Steele as master of ceremonies, honors the civil rights leader’s legacy with a formal dinner and dance. The Minority Economic Resources Corporation event begins at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Field Museum of Natural History, Roosevelt Road and Lake Shore Drive. Tickets are $100 for individuals or $500 for corporations. 312-226-4413.
– “Chicago Sings,” an All City Youth Chorus tribute to King, is at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St. Free. 312-744-6630.
– A King Day Breakfast, with speaker Morris Dees of the Southern Poverty Law Center, is at 7:30 a.m. Monday at Drury Lane Theatre, 100 Drury Lane, Oak Brook. $25. 630-829-6161.
