Walter E. “Gene” Barry, 67, of Des Plaines died Tuesday, Jan. 11, in Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge. Mr. Barry retired in 1992 after 38 years as a ceramic-tile layer, most recently with Cook County., where he worked 20 years. “I’m glad he was my dad,” said his daughter Kathleen. “He was a really good guy. He had a great sense of humor. We’re really going to miss him.” Survivors include his wife, Margaret J. ; three sons, Joseph P., Kevin P. and Timothy P.; three other daughters, Noreen Fahrner, Eileen Thomas and Coleen Thompson; four brothers, William, John, Raymond and Thomas; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1267 Everett Ave., Des Plaines.
