The Rolling Meadows City Council is discussing an ordinance that could fine contractors that dump snow onto freshly plowed roadways $100 to $500.

If approved by the council at its Feb. 8 meeting, the ordinance would require snowplow operators to buy a $50 license, which could be forfeited if violations occur.

Violations could include piling snow in handicapped-parking spaces, dumping on plowed roadways, harassing Public Works snowplow operators and blocking driveways with barricades.

“Our biggest problem is fly-by-night operators who disregard . . . public safety by putting snow in the streets,” said City Manager William Barlow.
