Eight people arrested after violence marred a dockworkers protest have been charged with rioting.

Six people were injured early Thursday after 600 union longshoremen clashed with police guarding a dock where non-union workers were unloading a ship.

The eight originally were charged with a misdemeanor. That was upgraded Friday to rioting, a felony punishable by 2 to 5 years in prison.
