Biking under railroad tracks and over the Fox River will become a reality this summer when a bike-pedestrian trestle is built beneath the Union Pacific Railroad bridge.
St. Charles aldermen recently approved $1.42 million for the acquisition of land and construction estimated cost to cost between $2.5 million and $3 million, according to Mark Koenen, public works director.
The city will pay Union Pacific $248,000, for a 99-year lease of the bridge, located just north of the downtown business district. The aldermen also approved payment of $200,000 to the Boy Scouts Three Fires Council for a small parcel just off Illinois Highway 31 that is needed for bridge access west of the river.
