Skip Bayless’ commentary on religion in sports (Tribune, Jan. 30) was a profound view of a subject most sports pundits for obvious reasons choose to ignore. This column probably provoked anger among some fans. To me it represented a high-water mark in journalistic courage, a rare commodity in today’s money-driven, TV-corrupted world of sports.

Bayless never seems to back away from unpopular positions in the interest of gaining short-term popularity among sports fans, and this is one big reason why the undersigned Cheesehead subscribes to the Tribune.
