Working on: I’m starring in a one-woman show that I developed. It’s called “Millennium Mambo” and it’s at the Goodman Studio Theatre through March 5. And I just finished “Cora Unashamed” for Mobil Masterpiece Theatre.
The last good movie I saw: “The Shawshank Redemption.”
I stay home to watch: “Law and Order,” “The Practice” and “Ally McBeal.”
The book I’ve been reading: Toni Morrison’s “Song of Solomon” (Everyman’s Library).
Favorite meal: Chicken wings, mashed potatoes and greens.

Prized possession: My home. I recently moved to Dallas after living in New York for many years. I decided it was time to go back home and it was one of the best choices I’ve ever made. It has grounded me and made me reach out to family. I love to sit in the garden.
Personal heroes: My grandmother and my mother–women of intelligence, grace, dignity, courage and warmth.

I’d give anything to meet: Harriet Tubman.
My fantasy is: I’m taking a leisurely trip around the world.
The one thing I can’t stand: Getting bumped from a flight.
If I could change one thing about myself: I’d be a twin so I could get more done.
My most irrational act: I got into a fistfight with a guy. I was in my 20s, old enough to know better.
Most humbling experience: Working in a shelter for homeless women.
