Lorraine E. Self, 71, died Monday, Feb. 21, in her Des Plaines home. Born in Chicago, Mrs. Self graduated from Waller High School there and worked as an administrative assistant. Most recently she worked as a secretary at Cahners Publishing Co. in Des Plaines. She retired in the 1990s. Mrs. Self also was a longtime member of the women’s auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles North Shore No. 2008, of which she served as president in the 1980s. “She would help anybody,” said her husband of 52 years, J.H. Other survivors include a son, David; two daughters, Diana Beyer and Patricia; a brother, William Krone; and three grandchildren. A visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in G.L. Hills Funeral Home, 745 Graceland Ave., Des Plaines. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
