You can’t drown your appetite. Penn State nutritionists say drinking water before or with your meals is a healthy habit, but research shows it won’t satisfy your hunger or help you eat less. What does help lower calorie intake, they say, is eating water-rich foods, such as pasta dishes with additional vegetables; smoothies; soup; and fruits and vegetables. The findings were reported in an American Journal of Clinical Nutrition Article catchily titled: “Water Incorporated Into a Food But Not Served With a Food Decreases Energy Intake in Lean Women.”
