James Hamilton Moses, 84, who owned a computer consulting firm in Northfield, died Saturday, Feb. 26, in Scottsdale, Ariz., of complications from thyroid cancer. After working briefly in advertising and sales. Mr. Moses became fascinated with computers. He eventually started a consulting firm, JHM Computer Resources Co. in Northfield. He retired in 1990, but still spent hours surfing the Internet and e-mailing friends and family. “He never wanted to stop learning,” said his daughter, Lynn Abrahamson. Mr. Moses, who loved puns, also enjoyed playing tennis, sailing and sculpting. He served five terms on the vestry at Trinity Episcopal Church and was a board member emeritus of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern Illinois. “He was a wonderful, warm, caring kind of guy. He was very loved and he created a great deal of love,” his daughter said. Mr. Moses graduated from the Harvard School for Boys in Chicago and attended Amherst College. Mr. Moses also served as a captain in the Marine Corps during World War II and received a commendation ribbon and medal. In addition to his daughter, Mr. Moses is survived by his wife, Joann; two other daughters, Laurie Gardner and Beth Moses; a brother, Hamilton; and seven grandchildren. Services are pending.
