Paul A. Rathunde, 80, of Elk Grove Village, a former resident of Chicago, died Sunday, Feb. 27, in Rush North Shore Medical Center in Skokie. Born in Chicago, Mr. Rathunde graduated from Kelvyn Park High School there before serving in the Army during World War II. For more than 20 years, Mr. Rathunde worked as an assembly line supervisor at Williams Electronics Inc., a Chicago-based manufacturer of pinball games. He retired in 1984 and moved to Elk Grove Village shortly afterward to be closer to his family. “He was kind, gentle and fair,” said his son Ron. “He always listened to both sides.” Other survivors include his wife of 59 years, Betty; two more sons, Tom and Bill; three daughters, Suzanne O’Brien, Georgena Kalinowski and Betty Jane Kalinowski; four brothers, Herb, Arthur, Davis and Richard; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A service was held Wednesday.
