Elizabeth Benson is dead wrong to suggest that the CTA should revert to its old system of announcing stops (Voice of the people, Feb. 29). The manual calling of the stops was often inaudible, muffled or non-existent. The new system allows daily commuters, occasional users and especially tourists to know exactly where they are and what stop is next. To suggest that as adults we don’t need these reminders is a ridiculous judgment to be made upon those of us who do need the reminders; I’m sorry if I’m not as familiar with the Chicago Transit Authority as Benson.
If Benson’s only problem is that there are technical problems with the automatic system, the CTA is much better off fixing the technicalities than returning to a system that doesn’t give its riders any guidance.
