Lewis Michael Blond, 41, of Buffalo Grove, a teacher at Maple Middle School in Northbrook, died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis Monday, Feb. 28, at home. Born in Chicago, Mr. Blond graduated from Niles East High School in Skokie and earned a bachelor’s of science degree in education from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in 1982. He taught a year at Evanston Township High School before becoming an industrial arts teacher at Maple. Mr. Blond taught woodworking and jewelry design and was the school’s wrestling and soccer coach. “He had a great rapport with kids,” said his wife of 17 years, Therese. “He thought a sense of humor was important in teaching.” Other survivors include two daughters, Emily and Juliana; his mother, Mariette; a brother, Carl; and a sister, Barbara. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Sunday in the Piser Chapel, 9200 N. Skokie Blvd., Skokie. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel.
