Norman K. Solomon, 80, of Schaumburg, a retired human resources manager, died Tuesday, March 7, in Friendship Village in Schaumburg. Born in Chicago, Mr. Solomon graduated from Lake View High School there and danced professionally in the Polish Ballet in Chicago before serving four years in the Army during World War II. He was a staff sergeant stationed in Australia and later moved to New Guinea, where he was in charge of an ammunitions depot. After his service, Mr. Solomon attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he obtained a master’s degree in psychology in 1951. A resident of Schaumburg since 1979, Mr. Solomon worked at D.A. Stuart Oil as the company’s human resources manager from 1951 to 1985. He enjoyed photography and working in stained glass. “He was quiet and loving but also very outgoing with his talents,” said his son James. Other survivors include his wife of more than 54 years, Olive; two daughters, Nancy Nolan and Marsha; another son, Norman Jr.; a sister, Eva Sanders; a brother, Marshall; and four grandchildren. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Our Savior’s United Methodist Church, 701 E. Schaumburg Rd., Schaumburg.
