Henrietta L. Murphy, 85, of Itasca and formerly of Forest Park, died Thursday, March 9, in Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. A Chicago native, Mrs. Murphy worked as a bookkeeper from 1950 to 1967 at Loretto Hospital in Chicago. After moving from Forest Park to Itasca, Mrs. Murphy became a member of the Itasca Historical Society, the Itasca Senior Citizens and the Golden Pals. In addition, Mrs. Murphy cut apart bed sheets to make dressings for hospital cancer patients. Even when she fell ill, Mrs. Murphy continued making the dressings. “My mother didn’t complain about anything,” said her son, Robert. “She didn’t let pain bother her.” She also loved to sing, according to her son, and won a singing competition at the Century of Progress in Chicago in the early 1930s. Mrs. Murphy is also survived by a daughter, Roberta Lee Burke; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in The Oaks Funeral Home, 1201 E. Irving Park Rd., Itasca. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.
