Our family has been building lasting memories that are well documented in our notebooks called “4 Things To Remember” (“What will your kids remember?” Jan. 2).

Each night at bedtime we write down four positive things to remember each day. Sometimes I’ll write four things myself in the few minutes before bed and other times each child will tell me one event to write until we have four memories written.

We started this tradition 13 years ago. The memories we have recorded in two notebooks are very precious. We reread these together several times each year at the request of the kids. Some of these memories wouldn’t be memories had we never taken the time to record them.

The two notebooks are more valuable than anything in our house, excluding my family. There are times when we went a month without doing this, but for a family to try and do this once a week will build many memories of ordinary fun things that happen daily.
