The end of the school year will be filled with final projects, final dances, final programs, final activities, final grades and final exams. And speaking of finals – this is our final installment of tips for this school year!
1. BEFORE THE REALLY WARM WEATHER gets here and you get out your summer outfits, check out your school dress code. If midriffs or certain T’s aren’t allowed, don’t waste your energy trying to get away with wearing them.
Think it’s time to hit the beach, boys? Not so fast – it could still snow! (Still, a kid can dream!)
2. GROUP PROJECT? If the slacker in your group isn’t ready on deadline day, make him/her ‘fess up to the teacher – then find out later how you can save your own grade.
3. NEXT TIME the object of your affection answers a question in class, really listen – then compli-ment him or her for the brilliant answer while you’re walking out of class!
4. STRESSING? Take a moment to write down what is making you tense, and then write a way you can have some control over the situation.
5. UNINSPIRED? Check out the library’s section with Dewey decimal numbers 371.3 and 373 for loads of books with study tips and other survival-guide info.
6. WHEN YOU KNOW the answer in class, raise your hand. It reduces your chances of getting called on when you’re clueless!
7. SICK OF YOUR CLOTHES? Clean your closet – you’ll find all kinds of “new” clothes at the back.
8. IF A TRUE-FALSE TEST question uses absolute words (“always,” “never,” “all,” “none”), the answer is usually false.
9. DON’T NEGLECT your creative needs: Draw a picture or cartoon, play an instrument or write a story.
10. HEALTH CHECK. Are you eating well, sleeping enough, getting exercise? Time to get that bod in summer order.
11. CARRY A BOOK you’re reading for class or for fun wherever you go. You’ll be surprised how many spare moments you’ll find, at the dentist office, waiting for a friend, riding with your parents in the car…
12. KEEP A SMALL BOTTLE OF SUNSCREEN in your gym locker for those days your gym class goes outside.
