As a law-abiding gun owner, I, like Richard Doub, do not have a problem with “sensible” gun legislation (Voice of the people, March 8). But what he and so many others need to realize is that all of the legislation in the world will not prevent tragedies such as the one that resulted in an innocent 6-year-old girl’s death. The guns that are used in these instances invariably are illegally obtained. People who steal or, in this case, buy a stolen gun are outlaws themselves and are not going to lock them up because it’s the law.
That is the biggest problem with most gun legislation, and also with all of the ludicrous lawsuits currently being brought against manufacturers and retailers; it only makes things harder for law-abiders like myself to enjoy the sport.
