Just for a change of pace, how about some praise for the beleaguered HMOs? I have been a member for 18 years with the same primary-care physician. I am now well into retirement with the usual ailments of aging. Never has there been a delay for appointments, whether routine or emergency. Never a question or hesitance about employing appropriate treatment on the spot. Never a delay on emergency room use. Though cost has risen, I would never consider any other health plan.
