The plague of Canada geese that is concerning the 50 Chicago suburban physicians (Voice of the people, March 8) has been created by people. Canada geese love the short-clipped lawns and retention ponds of corporate office centers, new subdivisions and golf courses. Humans create habitat and then become annoyed when a species moves in to populate it. The best way to “fix” the Canada goose situation is to change the way we landscape. We will have to adjust to a less-manicured look and plant trees, shrubs and plantings, which offer higher ground cover, around those retention ponds. Change the habitat and the populating species will change.
