The March 8 Opinion column in the WomanNews section, “What ills the pill has wrought,” was right on the mark. Thank you to Dr. Jose Bufill for not being afraid to give a deridingly unpopular opinion on the dangers of birth control pills.

There is one point that I would like to add. Birth control pills are probably abortifacients. There is a built-in, backup measure in the pill so if a woman’s egg is released and fertilized, the embryo cannot attach to the uterine wall. This new life is destroyed during the woman’s monthly menstruation. The low hormone levels in the pill, which make them safer to take, allow eggs to be released with more frequency than before.

I think plenty of women would be horrified to find out that they have possibly been destroying new life.
