The upscale housing construction boom in Bucktown and Wicker Park has been embraced without much concern for its most profound consequences: the dislocation of indigenous residents and businesses that provide their employment. These neighborhoods are rapidly losing the diversity of population and residential and economic opportunity that are the hallmarks of a truly great city.

If “architectural appropriateness” and “blocking the view of downtown” are now treated as our most pressing issues in these neighborhoods, then I agree with the photo quote in your Page 1, March 8story: “Something has gone terribly, terribly wrong.”
