Students are being forced to choose between dissecting an animal in the classroom against their conscience, taking a failing grade, dropping out of a class or even abandoning a career in the life sciences altogether.
A bill is now being considered by the Illinois Senate, HB-3254, that would protect students like Leanne from discrimination for choosing not to dissect. There are many educationally sound alternatives available to take the place of animal dissection.
