The top-ranked Glenbrook South boys volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, even though the Titans’ first match wasn’t until Monday afternoon.

Glenbrook South coach Patty Iverson disciplined five players, including two starters, for being late to Saturday’s practice by not letting them on the court in the first game Monday.

Stevenson’s Dave Jossund contributed 13 kills and six digs as the fifth-ranked Patriots stunned Glenbrook South 18-16, 15-5 in the opening match for both teams.

After the Titans dropped the first game, Iverson inserted the benched starters at the start of second game, but the Titans couldn’t gain momentum.

“When we inserted [the two starters], we lost the tempo,” Iverson said. “Stevenson got the tempo and did some good things. We just couldn’t get into rhythm.”

Chris Reilly added 31 assists to pace Stevenson. Gordon McConnell had 21 kills to lead Glenbrook South.
