Classes were called off Monday at Ladysmith-Hawkins High School because vandals trashed the school and stole a driver education car and other things during the weekend, authorities said.
Police Chief Norm Rozak said officials were still were assessing the damage, but he believed it was in the tens of thousands of dollars.
Doors and windows were damaged in one section of the school, he said. The vandals stole office, stereo and computer equipment and the driver education vehicle taken from the school was involved in an accident, Rozak said.
The vandalism spree began just after midnight Sunday and police were notified about 4 a.m., he said.
Four students, all 17- and 18-year-old males, have been arrested and another was being sought, Rozak said.
Most of the students arrested and their parents are cooperating with police in their investigation, the chief said.
