I am disgusted with the disparity of coverage between the men’s and women’s NCAA Division I basketball tournaments. The March 13 Special Section “March Madness” included six detailed pages on the men’s tournament and only one page on the women’s tournament. The front page of the special section was entitled “5 to watch”–a full-color spread on the personal stories of five young men who may one day play in the NBA for healthy salaries and unwittingly serve as role models for even younger players.

Where were the dyanamic stories about five young women and how their teams beat the odds to earn a playoff position? Why did the Tribune publish two playoff brackets for the men’s tournament but only one bracket for the women’s tournament? Did the Tribune run out of colored ink, photographers, paper and sportswriters, and only have resources to cover the men’s tournament in a dynamic fashion?
