Frank J. Tornabeni, 77, a retired South Side car sales manager and gift shop owner, died Monday, March 20, at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Hammond. Mr. Tornabeni, a World War II Army veteran who was awarded a Purple Heart, lived in South Holland. Mr. Tornabeni attended Calumet High School before being sent to Europe with the Army. When he returned from the war, he opened the Santa Fe gift shop at Dearborn and Polk Streets, according to his brother-in-law, Chester Cain. For a few years, Mr. Tornabeni ran the gift shop and worked at the Bob O’Connor Ford dealership on the city’s South Side. He was the sales manager at the dealership for 32 years before retiring five years ago. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Debra and Laura; a son, Frank Jr.; a brother, Anthony; and three grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Kenny Brothers Funeral Home, 3600 W. 95th St., Evergreen Park. Mass will be said at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 3650 W. 95th St., Evergreen Park.
